FREELEY APPOINTED FOR FINAL PHASE OF DEMOLITION OF OLD ALDER HEY BUILDINGS

Freeley has commenced the fourth and final phase of demolition works of Alder Hey’s old hospital.

The demolition contractor is on site clearing several structures on the former site of the hospital. Alder Hey opened a new hospital building next to its old site in 2015.

Director Michael Freeley said: “We’re pleased to be supporting the Trust in removing the final buildings from the former estate and enabling final parkland to be returned to the community. Our team is making great progress, with the soft strip of Alder Hey’s old Histopathology building now complete and mechanical demolition underway.

“As with all healthcare demolition projects, we’ve put stringent measures in place to protect patients, staff and visitors. As our working area is close to the new hospital’s busy emergency department, strict traffic management procedures have been implemented. We’re also taking steps to minimise the project’s environmental impact.”

The demolition works are scheduled to complete in early 2026.

The project is one of several healthcare contracts to be awarded to Freeley within the past year. The team has also completed extensive demolition works at North Manchester General Hospital and RAAC removal for four North West hospitals.
