The University of Warwick has appointed J Freeley for multiple demolitions in the heart of its Westwood campus.
The 13-week programme will see the demolition contractor remove the Graduate Studies building connected to another live university property which will be retained.
The scope of works will also see J Freeley demolish two empty residential properties on the same campus.
Prior to demolishing the Graduate Studies building, J Freeley will undertake extensive preparatory works. All services will be isolated and disconnected, including redesigning and diverting gas pipelines. Asbestos will also be removed by the contractor.
To clear the structure, both manual and mechanical demolition will be carried out, including the removal of the floor slab and foundations.
J Freeley will also be responsible for constructing a new emergency staircase, fire door and emergency lighting system to the retained adjacent building. Once the demolition has been completed, the team will landscape the site.

“Carrying out demolition works in the middle of a busy campus is challenging. It is imperative that we minimise any disturbance for students and staff, so the careful control of dust, noise, vibration and traffic is essential.
“The landscaping works will be carried out before we hand the site back to the University providing a beneficial amenity for students and staff.”
