The University of Warwick has appointed J Freeley for multiple demolitions in the heart of its Westwood campus.
The 13-week programme involves the demolition of the Graduate Studies building as well as two empty residential properties near to the Westwood campus on Kirby Corner Road.
Prior to demolishing the Graduate Studies building, J Freeley will undertake extensive preparatory works followed by the removal of asbestos. To clear the structure, including the floor slab and foundations, both manual and mechanical demolition will be carried out.
J Freeley will also be responsible for constructing a new emergency staircase, fire door and emergency lighting system to a retained building, adjacent to the Graduate Studies property. Once the demolition has been completed, the team will landscape the site.
Michael Freeley, Director at J Freeley, said: “This is our second project for The University of Warwick and builds on our experience of delivering projects within live environments.
“Carrying out demolition works in the middle of a busy campus is challenging. It is imperative that we minimise any disturbance for students, staff and the local community, so the careful control of dust, noise, vibration and traffic is essential.
“The landscaping works will be carried out before we hand the site back to the University, providing a beneficial amenity for students and staff.”
