Freeley successfully delivered its second project for the University of Warwick, completing the demolition of multiple buildings within the heart of a live and busy campus environment.

Following extensive preparation works, including asbestos removal, the team cleared several sites before undertaking fencing and landscaping works to ensure areas were safe and ready for redevelopment.

The most technically challenging element surrounded the demolition of the Graduate Studies Building, which sat at the centre of the Westwood campus and directly attached to a retained, operational property. Carefully sequenced manual and mechanical demolition techniques were used to protect the integrity of the adjoining structure and ensure the safety of building users throughout.

In addition to demolition works, Freeley installed a new emergency staircase with emergency lighting to the retained property and carried out restorative façade works, providing a complete and coordinated solution.

The project also included the demolition of two vacant residential properties near the Westwood campus, delivered safely and with minimal disruption to university operations.

“This project demonstrates our ability to deliver complex demolition in a live, constrained environment while maintaining the highest safety standards and minimising disruption.

Working within a busy university campus required careful planning, particularly when demolishing a structure attached to a live building. Controlling dust, noise, and vibrations was paramount to minimise disturbance for students and staff.”
